Benowa and The Coomera Connector
The M1 is an 8-lane motorway from Brisbane in the north, to exit 66, Smith Street Motorway, Parkwood, on the Gold Coast, after which the M1 reduces to a 6-lane motorway through to exit 84, Varsity Lakes; this is now continuing as a 4 to 6 lane widening infrastructure project, all the way to the New South Wales border tunnel, funded by both the Australian Federal Government and Queensland State Government.
Community Consultation
With community consultation now complete, and land acquisitions occurring or already in place, the proposed new 6-lane highway east of the M1 and train line, to be called, ‘The Coomera Connector’ motorway; now seems to be a foregone conclusion about to be realized.
45km North-South Motorway Corridor
The Coomera Connector will be a 45km north-south motorway corridor, running between the Logan Motorway and M1/Pacific Motorway interchange at Loganholme in the north, continuing south through the western end of Ashmore, before finishing at Nerang Broadbeach Road, Nerang.
Stage 1 Identified
The new motorway is expected to be wide enough to include provision for public transport, walking paths and bike riding. Stage 1 has been identified as the southern section between Coomera and Nerang. There will also be allowance for a local road joining the Coomera Connector at Eagleby, through to Beenleigh Redland Bay Road and Mount Cotton Road at Carbrook.
